Voltage Regulator / Rectifier Unit

Because of customer demand this unit now comes with micro plugs like Yamaha used on the original regulator and rectifier.  We supply new plugs
for the harness and highly recommend that you install them as well as replacing the plug from the alternator to the wiring harness since the original
connectors are almost always trashed.

We will supply the VRREM7-YRD with the larger plugs on request.

The leads are the same length as the original regulator and rectifier leads and the unit fits nicely into the place where the original regulator mounted.

Regulator and rectifier for the  RD400 Yamaha
The most common charing problem on the R5, DS7, RD250 and RD350 is no from failed parts but rather from improper installation
of the brushes.  The green wire from the brushes to the voltage regulator is supposed to connect to the one brush on the alternator
and be isolated from ground.  These 2 wires are supposed to be sandwiched between 2 insulated washers with insulated tube
covering the bolt.  The later models had one top hat shaped washer and one flat one with a larger hole than the bolt size to go over
the shank of the top hat washer.

The low res  pic below is a scan from an old Yamaha parts book.  The brush connection is circled in red.  This is the bes I can to
now to show this.   Make sure that neither of these 2 wires touch ground and at least this part will be OK.  
Connecting one of our electronic regulators so the field wire (to
the brushes) shorts directly to ground will blow the circuitry in
the regulator.  

This is a non warranty repair.  We rebuild regulator fried from
improper installation for a $35 rebuild fee...

The best thing is to install it right.  The easy way to make sure it
is installed correctly is to check the resistance from the green
wire to ground.  Find the green wire where it comes out of the
case and follow it up to where it unplugs from the harness.  
Unplug it and test the resistance from it to ground.   If all is OK,
the resistance will be in the 3.8 to 4.5 ohm range.  If the
resistance is very low or 0, either the brushes are installed
incorrectly or the rotor is blown and in any case will blow your
new regulator...

The 6th wire from the old rectifier is not used with this regulator and this is covered in the instructions.

This regulator plugs into the stock wiring harness
but requires custom mounting.  It's a little longer
than the OEM regulator and will not fit in the stock
